Atlas - Harbour tug.

I'd already built a twin screw Range Safety Craft and thruster equipped Tanker, so it was time that I attempted a tug. A birthday treat (to myself) was a visit to the Ellesmere Port model boat show. I tried to keep my hands in my pockets but ended up carrying out a Mobile Marine Eldergarth hull and Kort nozzles.

Comments, observations and details on building Atlas.

The motors are Marine Model type 8 and they were aligned using the protorlign system. Speed controllers are Electronize 30amp units without BEC. Hunter systems 15amp distribution board is used as a main bus-board with channels 1 and 2 feeding each engine and channel 3 supplying the sound system. This is a 12volt model with a 7amp gel lead acid batteries providing the power.

Sound system is from JJC and uses an 8ohm speaker hitched up to their PE310 master unit. This emulates a turbo-cat diesel which gives a rich throaty burble and realistic crank up.

Engine mounts and all woodwork on the model are made from oak, which is coated in GRP resin to seal it for life.

I started this project in August and the maiden voyage was in December. This represented a thoroughly enjoyable and incident free 4 month build period.

Much credit goes to the guys at the Droitwich Spa Model Boat Club whose ideas I've plagiarized, and who have always been full of options, expertise and workarounds - thanks guys !!!
